She served in Desert Storm (to expel a dictator from power) and was stationed in West Germany just before reunification and saw the remnants of SS bunkers while stationed there.
Her new response to thank you for your service? Fuck you, it wasnt worth it.

I get a kick out of people who go out of their way to thank me for my service. Most of them are likely republican who never wore the uniform. I reply with: Thank You for not calling me a Sucker or a Loser.

Each of you gave good replies. I can't explain what I feel when I get that "thank you"; but it is not good. Now, at least I will have a good reply.
And Emile, I may have to drag out my old army jacket to wear when I go shopping. LOL

(24,683 posts)Personally, for me, it was "worth it". The GI Bill (thanks, FDR) paid for college. And maybe the Army gave me discipline and maturity to make it through college.
My old army field jacket has somehow shrunk over the decades, it's a bit tight around the middle.
SP5 Bozo, saluting.
