Sanders Says 'Not Another Penny' for ICE Until Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller Are Gone

US Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday demanded the removal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller—a key architect of President Donald Trump’s violent mass deportation campaign—as well as concrete reforms in exchange for any new funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In remarks on the Senate floor, Sanders (I-Vt.) called ICE a “domestic military force” that is “terrorizing” communities across the country. The senator pointed specifically to the agency’s ongoing activities in Minnesota and Maine, where officers have committed horrific—and deadly—abuses.

Sanders said that “not another penny should be given” to ICE or Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “unless there are fundamental reforms in how those agencies function—and until there is new leadership at the Department of Homeland Security and among those who run our immigration policy.” The senator has proposed repealing a $75 billion ICE funding boost that the GOP approved last summer, an end to warrantless arrests, the unmasking of ICE and CBP agents, and more.

“To be clear, Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller must go,” Sanders said Wednesday, condemning the administration’s attempts to smear Renee Good and Alex Pretti, US citizens who were killed this month by federal agents in Minneapolis.

and the precious few other Dems, that are always in the news trying to protest...............

Unlike a couple of hundred other U.S. Dem Representatives, and forty plus U.S. Senators.

Including both U.S. Senators and a Couple of U.S. Representatives from here in Colorado, who are, in my opinion No Shows.....
One Colorado Senator has recently been in the news here in Colorado, Bennett, but only because he is running for governor to replace Polis.

The other Colorado U.S. Senator, Hickenlooper, is suddenly, out of nowhere, appearing in the news, but only to praise/back Bennett for Governor.

Someone I talked to, was thinking that Polis will back Bennett for Colorado Governor and Bennet will then back Polis for Bennett's seat in the U.S. Senate....I think that Polis in the Senate would just give the U.S. one more pro-corporate leaning multi millionaire "Dem"..

With the all out, open assault on Colorado by Trump and his entire CABAL, we need them ALL to stand up continuously about what is going on, and not just sit back, and vote in the House and Senate.....

On another note: 2025 & Stephen Miller are picking on Minneapolis because they only have a population of 500K, compared to L.A., Denver, Seattle or NY City that all have in excess of FIVE MILLION RESIDENTS.........

US government could see shutdown on Friday as Democrats stall funding bill over immigration enforcement reform

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/29/senate-democrats-deal-dhs-funding-bill

A key vote intended to head off a partial government shutdown failed in the Senate on Thursday, after Democrats refused to back funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) unless it included reforms to federal agents involved in Donald Trump’s mass deportation campaign.

However a Senate aide confirmed that Democrats have been negotiating with Republicans on a deal that could result in passage of most government funding bills and a short-term measure covering the DHS, which oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the US border patrol.

The intention would be to buy time for further talks over Democrats’ demands for changes to immigration enforcement in the wake of the deaths of US citizens Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis, which include an end to mask wearing by federal agents, the imposition of a code of conduct and independent investigations of its violations.

Nonetheless, the procedural vote’s failure in the Senate appears to guarantee at least a partial government shutdown beginning after Friday, when the current spending authorizations for many government departments expire. Any changes to the DHS funding bill would have to be approved by the House of Representatives, which is out of session until Monday.

useful departments have been closed due to lack of money, and they want to continue pouring money into a corrupt department that has caused so much damage in less than a year.

So Bernie, not a single penny for them, even if the two cowards, Noem and Miller, are gone, and the new guy who replaced Bovino should also go, he is as crazy or more than Bovino.

Homan must also go. Heck, the entire ICE must be disbanded, they serve no useful purpose, if you want to deport illegal criminals then start by removing Pattel, and get the FBI in check to do their honest work. Oh, and impeach trump again.

Sanders Says 'Not Another Penny' for ICE Until Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller Are Gone

Sorry, hard red line for me that I will not compromise on for any reason. Unequivocal, uncompromising redline that there should NEVER BE ANOTHER DIME SPENT ON ICE. EVER.

Any politician that says ANYTHING other than "abolish ICE" will not get my vote.
Criticize me or attack me. I done care. We cannot reform this. We cannot allow police or our government to continue to brutalize Black and brown people and say and do nothing.

This is the hill I'm on and I'm not coming off it for anyone or anything.

ABOLISH ICE.

I want ALL Democratic leaders to take notice - THAT is how I expect my party to respond to these threats to the Constitution. I want actions - hard number plans and repercussions for non-compliance and 100% accountability from cabinet leadership, the White House and any subordinates to the President that authorize or oversee this kind of abuse of power.

This is NOT politics, it is the future of a representative republic versus an oligarchical dictatorship - the very LEAST my party leaders could offer is righteous indignation and harsh terms for further funding approvals.

He's just a consultant for the president. Like someone said, even if you took his title away, Trump will still have him in the WH everyday. That is not a demand that will move the needle. It's like demanding Trump to resign. Yes we all want that, but we know it'll never happen.

Appeciate Sanders, but every ICE agent hired from Jan 2025 forward needs to be furloughed. Independent committee with equal Rs and Ds, chaired by a Dem, needs to review all workers for any convictions and Domestic Abuse reports, have one you are fired. Any past relationship with Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, etc, Fired!
