Newsom Blasts Homan Leadership in Minnesota After ICE Raids

California Governor Gavin Newsom assailed the White House border czar, Tom Homan, saying he’s the wrong person to deescalate tensions in Minneapolis spurred by President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Trump dispatched Homan to Minneapolis in a leadership shakeup that he said was intended to ease tensions in the city. Homan was accused last year of accepting $50,000 in cash in 2024 from Federal Bureau of Investigation agents posing as businessmen seeking government contracts. Homan has denied allegations that he took those funds.

If Homan “is the adult in the room, we are in more trouble than any of you think,” Newsom said Thursday at a Bloomberg event in San Francisco, noting the alleged payment.

Trump’s immigration crackdown in Minneapolis has sparked widespread outcry after federal agents killed two US citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, in street confrontations. The administration said Thursday that it is seeking to scale down the number of officials in the area after the uproar.

There have been some reports that Homan was also under the Obama administration in an attempt to "play the both sides do it game", it is important to understand that while Homan was an Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for ICE starting in 2013, and oversaw record-high deportaions, he also worked under six presidents, starting with reagan. His directive under President Obama was prioritizing the removal of immigrants with criminal records through DUE PROCESS, something that has been completely discarded under the trump administration, and according to Homan himself,he considered the Trump administration's actions to be more extensive.

Yeah I think denying someone due process would be more extensive.

Unfortunately, much of the reporting on this leaves key details out about the differences, "the right to due process" being the most significant difference, and pushed aside because it clouds the "bothsiderism" argument that some like to exploit, intentionally leaving out clear differences.
