'Grey's Anatomy' Pauses Production as Crew Members Support Anti-ICE 'National Shutdown' Protest
In a major example of the anti-ICE protests reaching Hollywood, Greys Anatomy has paused production on Friday in recognition of the call for a national shutdown.
In response to ICE raids in Minneapolis and a string of highly publicized killings by federal agents hundreds of organizations have endorsed a one-day stoppage of labor and commerce. No work. No school. No shopping. Stop funding ICE, reads the website for the strike.
Sources close to Greys Anatomy confirm to Variety that crew members working on the ABC medical drama planned to not show up on Friday, prompting producers to postpone production for the day. Filming will pick back up on Saturday for Season 22 of the long-running series from Shondaland and 20th Century. Deadline first reported the news.
Calls to join the nationwide protest have circulated on social media, with celebrities such as Ariana Grande and Pedro Pascal sharing information with their followers. Other Hollywood figures have spoken out against ICE amid the agencys escalation of violence across American cities, including Billie Eilish, Olivia Wilde, Ed Norton and Bruce Springsteen, who released a protest song titled Streets of Minneapolis that slams King Trumps private army and state terror.
