Penicillin was first successfully used to treat syphilis in 1943. Trump was born in 1946. From the 1940s onwards, syphilis cases dropped sharply in the U.S., reaching their lowest point in 1998-2000.

Could Trump have caught syphilis at some point? Sure. But I think the possibility of a person with lifelong access to top notch medical care, born after syphilis became fully curable, contracting the disease and remaining undiagnosed and untreated long enough for it to reach an advanced stage is vanishingly small.

It was absolutely horrible. It looked exactly like the rash on Trump’s neck. It is not uncommon; also it is a sign that Trump’s immune system isn’t working on all cylinders as the body normally suppresses the dormant chicken pox virus that causes shingles. It appears mainly in the elderly and/or chronically ill whose immune systems aren’t functioning at full strength.

Other possibilites are certainly within the range of plausibility as well given his age and recent health signs.

Skin cancer
Other cancer
Gout meds
Some anti-psychotics
Opiods
Lasix (for the cankles)
Radiation burn
Rash as s/e from chemo

other stuff I’m probably forgetting at the moment

The thing that says “shingles” to me is the fact that it’s localized, in a kind of line. That’s not in any way difinitive or exclusive though.

'Whoa – this is new': Trump's visible rash prompts new health concerns

President Donald Trump appeared in public Monday morning with a significant rash on his neck.

The 79-year-old president awarded the Medal of Honor at the White House to Vietnam veteran Terry P. Richardson, who is credited with saving the lives of 85 soldiers during a 1968 battle, and journalist Aaron Rupar noted that photos showed a heavy rash on the right side of Trump's neck at the event.

"Whoa -- this is new," Rupar posted, showing a photo credited to Getty photographer Saul Loeb. "Trump has a significant rash-like injury on his neck today in addition to his disfigured hand."

Trump has frequently been seen in public, including the medal award event, with makeup covering the back of his right hand to cover what appears to be injuries from IV injections, and the photo of his rash raised new concerns about his health.

......"My dad was doubling, possibly tripling up, his blood thinners at one point," posted Bluesky user Nicole. "Parts of his skin would just tear and bleed because of this. If his collar is rubbing up against his neck, the friction could cause this. Wasn't there something about him taking way too much aspirin?"

The largest organ in the human body. I'd be amazed if tRump knows that. He's never taken care of his skin, always putting metric tonnes of cosmetics, dyes, and heaven knows what else on it and in it.
In advanced age your skin loses it's elasticity and becomes drier, bruises more easily (internal bleeding!) and skin cancer from lifetime exposure from the sun becomes more prevalent.
With any sort of luck, and a shitload of bad Karma coming to collect, he has malignant Melanoma. It's relatively slow and painful, in which practically everyone on the planet would rejoice. 😁

Of course he has the best medical attention on the planet available to him, but cancer doesn't give a shit. It's a non-political, non-denominational, non-shit-giving disease, and I hope it's chosen him as fuel for its' inevitable victory over one of the greatest evils of our time.

But please, get well soon, Don.

Here: https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=21063465

I'll repeat it in case folks can't be bothered to click through:

He may be being treated for a pre-cancerous skin condition

Pre-cancerous actinic keratoses and superficial basal cell carcinomas can be treated with a shortish course of topical creams such as Fluorouracil, usually over 2-4 weeks.

A pal of mine has had thin hair for many years and spent a lot of time outdoors with no hat on, and developed pre-cancerous lesions on his scalp a couple of years ago.

When I saw him after we hadn't met for a while and he'd started the treatment, he looked quite a mess - it temporarily leads to the sort of angry-looking crusty skin patches shown in photos of Trump I've seen. My pal's skin healed just fine. If this is what's going on, Trump's patch seems much more widespread than my pal's were.

The neck area would see a lot of sun over the years, especially when golfing, and the sorts of headgear he's fond of wouldn't have protected that area. I doubt he's been in the habit of using sunscreen (barring the makeup he plasters on in his later years) judging by the state of the rest of his skin.

If they've caught it early enough to treat with a cream (which would very much lead to the appearance in the photos), the prognosis would usually be favourable (much to widespread disappointment) and it's not a big deal. But it could crop up in other areas that have been exposed to the sun.
