Canadian mom and daughter detained by ICE driving from baby shower

The mother and daughter are being held at the Rio Grande Valley Central Processing Center in McAllen, Texas. Colloquially known as Ursula, for its Ursula Avenue address, it came under fire during the first Trump administration for housing children in chain-link fencing akin to cages. It reopened in 2022 after renovations that included removing chain-link fencing.

“It’s no place for a seven-year-old to be,” Edward said.
Tania’s mother, Heather Fleck, spoke with CTV News from Naramata, B.C., by phone. She calls it “mind-boggling” that ICE would take a seven-year-old child into custody.

“She’s on the spectrum,” Fleck said of her granddaughter, Ayla. “This is going to be devastating.”

I took that to mean the daughter was somewhere on the autism spectrum. The context works better that way.

He has been working in the US for years, for an oil company and is from Edmonton. He has a partner and children in the US, has all the proper paperwork so it is not those that are different, it is those that they can grab at any moment. People are subject to the asshole they happen to run into.

are no longer visiting the US. I am so sick of them blaming it on the exchange rate, it has never been about the exchange rate, we were visiting when the exchange rate was worse. It is not only because Trump has shit on us, along with the treatment from his MAGA minions, it is the treatment of people like this. I will seriously scream at any Canadian I know, that makes the decision to vacation in the US.

Kurland says it’s not uncommon for ICE to detain entire families as they sort through an immigration situation – a process which can take days, weeks or months.

He says even a Canadian with the right U.S. paperwork is “in jeopardy.”

“You’re a stranger in a strange land.”

Sounds like they have papers and are here legally.
