Crude oil dropped today because Krasnov said something positive about a peace plan, are they that stupid?
There are no meaningful negotiations going on, the fake negotiations are a smoke screen before Kransov puts boots on the ground, as soon as Friday.
We can capture Kharg Island and several other islands nearby with minor casualties, but then what, how do we stay there?
Iran may have a lot of boobie traps, may decide to blow the island up instead of letting the US capture it?
A lot of US planes and troops are headed to the ME so Krasnov is either doing this to intimidate Iran or boots on the ground is coming this weekend.
The war in Iran has only just begun.

(10,273 posts)Kharg is about 25 miles off the coast of Iran. Ukraine has shown that the range of FPV drones can be pushed to 30-40 miles. Then you have the Shahed and missile threat. US forces will not have nearly the same AA coverage that our bases and major cities in the region provide. I wouldn't make the mistake of believing this will be done with "minor casualties".
If you have the stomach for it, take a look at the CombatFootage subreddit and search for "drone". Drone warfare is something that, IMO, we are not prepared for.

(32,211 posts)keeping control of it is another story.
What is freaking sad is that Krasnov wants to do this for a photo op, Lyndsey Graham mentioned Iwo Jima for a reason, Krasnov wants the video of US troops planting the American flag on Kharg Island.

(970 posts)We can send thousands of troops to fight a country of 90 million. And in the end, they will still be a country and they will still own the oil.
Israel wants us to invade. Saudi's want us to invade. Where are their troops? Where are their ships? Where are their planes? They all want us to do the dirty work, spend the money, lose the people and they will reap the benefits.
Fuck them all. They have all been a pain in our ass for 130 years.

(6,946 posts)We have enough oil - whether we choose to pump at any cost (human, climate, or otherwise)
Wars are profitable for companies.
Just think of all the businesses, defense to mortuaries, that will need to grow as the war goes on. Remember, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, thing that brought us out of the depression was WW2 - even years before we were involved. And the fifties were good for them because of the pent-up need to keep consumers satisfied.
Traders look for short-term profit - what will happen to the price of oil tomorrow but investors look for long-term profit - what will happen afterwards.
Buy low. Sell high. If times are awful, that's the time to buy. People make money on disasters. If the disaster is permanent, does it matter that you lost everything? If it is not, you can make a bundle.
There are no morals, ethics, honesty, or good intentions in the market.

(32,211 posts)there are reports (not confirmed) but I can believe them, that Saudi Arabia and the UAE paid Krasnov a lot of money to go to war with Iran.

Individual investors have little to no influence on the stock market.
