Any of this sound familiar?
Three days ago, 15 people diagnosed with the hantavirus were removed from a cruise ship and quarantined in Nebraska.
Today, another at least 5 and may 15 more cases have been identified.
As best anyone can tell, the virus MAY run its course in 12-20 days.
As I recall, a few years ago, we learned that 12 people from a cruise ship were quarantined in California with something called COVID-19.
The president at the time Trump assured us the virus would run its course in 14 days and we have nothing to worry about.
Half a million dead Americans later became 1,250,000 dead Americans. But who's counting?
And now its hantavirus, nothing to worry about, its under control. And the same moron is President.
But, hey . . . theres always ivermectin from the large-animal vet. We can drink bleach and shine UV light down our throats. And RFK Jr. recommends vitamin A and the tanning bed.
Thank God Dr. Fauci is not here to interfere and frighten us.

(11,017 posts)Brief Summary
This phase II trial studies the side effects and best dose of ivermectin in combination with balstilimab or pembrolizumab and to see how well they they work in shrinking tumors in patients with triple negative breast cancer that has spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as balstilimab or pembrolizumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Ivermectin may help block the formation of growths that may become cancer. Giving ivermectin with balstilimab or pembrolizumab may increase the effect of balstilimab or pembrolizumab in shrinking tumors in patients with triple negative breast cancer. The secondary objectives of the study include evaluating the following efficacy outcomes: objective response rate (ORR), progression free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), duration of response (DOR), clinical benefit rate (CBR), and patients' quality of life (QOL) by European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (QLQ-C30).

I can find nothing saying any American has shown symptoms, let alone been confirmed as having the virus.
https://www.cdc.gov/hantavirus/situation-summary/index.html
A total of 8 cases have symptoms from all countries: https://www.who.int/emergencies/disease-outbreak-news/item/2026-DON600
That includes a Dutch couple (cases 1 and 2), a Brit in ICU in Johannesburg (case 3), a German woman who died on the ship (case 4), the ship's British doctor, now in hospital in the Netherlands (case 5), a British guide on the ship, now in hospital in the Netherlands (case 6), a Swiss man, now in Switzerland (case 7), and a Brit now on Tristan da Cunha (case 8).

(1,629 posts)These viruses are the selling point to me on having stringent health testing prior to coming into the US from Mexico or Canada prior to testing. I dont believe this is even in Mexico, but during outbreak scenarios.

(11,017 posts)I dont even think it made national news. 20 year old Shawnee Romero. Her mother was the teller at our small town rural bank and could often been seen at our small rural cemetery lying on Shawneess grave for hrs.
She died on June 9, 2016, from Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) after exposure while working at the Manzano Mountain Retreat and Apple Ranch (sometimes referred to simply as Apple Ranch). Her job involved cleaning cabins that had accumulated large amounts of rodent droppings and urine, particularly from deer mice (the primary carrier of Sin Nombre virus, the main hantavirus strain in the U.S. Southwest). pressreader.com
Key Details
Exposure: She disturbed dried rodent droppings (likely by sweeping or cleaning without proper precautions like wetting them down with disinfectant or using a respirator). This can aerosolize the virus particles, allowing inhalation. No specific personal protective equipment like a respirator was reportedly provided.
(There was a lawsuit as the out of state owners never offered Shawnee a respirator or disinfected the cabins before having her clean. Local gossip is that other kids working with her quit when saw what they were tasked to do or the number of kids effected would have been higher)

(1,629 posts)The only strain that can be transmitted through human to human contact is that one strain in Argentina. The rest require airborne dust from contaminated droppings.

Break out the bleach and the U/V lights, red-state America!

(11,017 posts)And I have lots of mouse problems out here in the country. Electronic mouse traps in my car every night.
I fact I am getting my car serviced Wednesday and the local guy will not change my cabin filter because I had mouse nests in past. Im going out with bleach and a mask to change it now.
