WASHINGTON (AP) U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Alan Greenspan has died at the age of 100.
He died on Monday from complications of Parkinsons Disease, said his wife of 29 years, NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchel.
To me he was my husband, who shaped my life from our very first date in 1984, Mitchell said. He had irrational exuberance for baseball, the Washington Commanders, tennis, golf, and music, especially jazz. He will be remembered for his brilliance and his kindness. Being his life partner was the joy of my life.
In his 18½ years at the helm of the Fed, Greenspan presided over a sustained era of American growth and prosperity, yet one that ended with devastating consequences in 2008, two years after he had left the central bank.

(8,339 posts)When Democratic Presidents are in power = You Must Get Inflation down and the National debt under control!
When Republican Presidents are in power = Don't worry about inflation and the national debt; giant taxcuts for the uber-wealthy is what will stimulate the economy and trickle down to average people.
An economic partisan hack!

The crucial moment came when Waxman asked Greenspan, "You found your view of the world, your ideology, was not right, it was not working?"
"Absolutely, precisely," Greenspan replied, going on to say: "You know, that's precisely the reason I was shocked, because I have been going more than 40 years or more with very considerable evidence that it was working considerably well."
