In call, Alabama Power lobbyist sought nonprofit's support for bill ending PSC elections
A lobbyist for Alabamas largest electric utility approached a nonprofit in an attempt to persuade the organization to support legislation that would end popular elections to the states utility regulation board.
In a Jan. 27 recording obtained by the Alabama Reflector and first reported by WBRC in Birmingham, R.B. Walker, director of state and federal governmental affairs for Alabama Power, told John Dodd, policy manager for Energy Alabama, that the utility company would not take an official position on the proposed legislation but said that it would be a win for the nonprofit. He cited possible advantages for appointing members of the Alabama Public Service Commission.
My thought was to let you all have a win, was kind of how I was thinking about it, Walker, the lobbyist, said to Dodd.
This might be in the best long-term interest of customers, which is probably the only thing that we can agree on, Walker added.
