Hundreds of protesters against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stormed a Hilton hotel in Minneapolis after a woman was fatally shot by one of the agencys officers this week. Newsweek contacted Hilton Hotels and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) via email for comment outside of regular business hours.
Why It Matters
Renee Nicole Good's killing by an ICE officer has ignited widespread protests in Minneapolis and drawn national attention to the contentious debate over federal immigration enforcement in American cities. The incident, and the subsequent unrest, are fueling public scrutiny of ICE's practices and the Trump administration's immigration policies, while underscoring deep divisions within both the local community and the country at large.
What To Know
Three consecutive nights of protests were triggered in Minneapolis after ICE agent Jonathan Ross fatally shot Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, during a confrontation in the Cedar-Riverside area of the Minnesota city.
On Friday night, hundreds of masked anti-ICE demonstrators gathered outside the Canopy by Hilton Hotel, following rumors that federal agents were staying there. Protesters shattered windows, sprayed graffiti, and chanted anti-ICE slogans. Police responded at approximately 10:30 p.m., deploying around 100 state troopers to disperse the protest.

They're not "demonstrators" or "protestors". They are "Black Bloc" (using those tactics). They did it in Portland. They did it at Colombia U. They show up and instigate. Screaming and yelling and honking and whistling is one thing but it's usually just a handful of select individuals who trigger that "next step".
The state has a large population of residents of Nordic descent (particularly Norway).
I actually have an uncle who moved there over 30+ years ago (for some reason...lol) and he's still there. Have been there a bunch of times (had direct reports there) and did get to go in the "Mall of America" during one of those trips. First time I had seen a "Johnny Rockets" fast food place (which is in the mall).

(5,047 posts)that any protest with more than three people will be known about in advance by authorities. They can infiltrate any protest that they want to with instigators to incite violence.
If you see anyone acting violently or destroying property, they are the enemy.
Get as much photographic evidence as you can safely get. Take pictures of the footprints that their shoes leave, every detail of their clothes. Follow them if possible and get pics of their vehicle.

(6,986 posts).... black bloc protesters are not cops. They are a real faction, typically anarchists. The OP is correctly characterized them.

(5,047 posts)are in fact infiltrators sent by police, fbi, etc. Some actual black bloc protesters are actually undercover agents. Most of them are simply anarchists or from left wing groups.
But anyone who encourages violence or destruction of property, whether black bloc or not, is the enemy of anyone who wants to see the reich-wing in this country removed from power. Violence and property destruction are the actions of useful idiots which cause the apathetic and ignorant third of this country to distrust anyone on the left and throw their support behind the reich-wing which promises security even as they use those useful idiots to cause chaos.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Thousands of people marched in Minneapolis Saturday to protest the fatal shooting of a woman by a federal immigration officer there and the shooting of two protesters in Portland, Oregon, as Minnesota leaders urged demonstrators to remain peaceful.
The Minneapolis gathering was one of hundreds of protests planned in towns and cities across the country over the weekend. It came in a city on edge since the killing of Renee Good on Wednesday by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.
Were all living in fear right now, said Meghan Moore, a mother of two from Minneapolis who joined the protest Saturday. ICE is creating an environment where nobody feels safe and thats unacceptable.
On Friday night, a protest outside a Minneapolis hotel that attracted about 1,000 people turned violent as demonstrators threw ice, snow and rocks at officers, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian OHara said Saturday. One officer suffered minor injuries after being struck with a piece of ice, OHara said. Twenty-nine people were cited and released, he said.

(8,754 posts)attention in the aftermath of the murder of Ms. Good. I have seen countless videos of ICE-American Gestapo running up to protestors simply standing on sidewalks and blasting them in the face with tear gas. I have seen countless videos of scenes from Portland of goons running up behind protestors simply standing on a sidewalk and knocking them to the ground. But of course I don't see that on CBS News for example or demands for accountability and for the government to stop these actions.
But they grab this because it fits a narrative they want going forward. They want to portray what is coming as "our fault".
