WASHINGTON (AP) The killing of a Minnesota woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer is reverberating across Capitol Hill where Democrats, and certain Republicans, are vowing an assertive response as President Donald Trumps aggressive deportation operations spark protests nationwide.
Lawmakers are demanding a range of actions, from a full investigation into Renee Goods shooting death and policy changes over law enforcement raids to the defunding of ICE operations and the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, in what is fast becoming an inflection point.
The situation that took place in Minnesota is a complete and total disgrace, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York said as details emerged. And in the next few days, we will be having conversations about a strong and forceful and appropriate response by House Democrats.
Yet there is almost no consensus among the political parties in the aftermath of the death of Good, who was behind the wheel of an SUV after dropping off her 6-year-old at school when she was shot and killed by an ICE officer.

(12,217 posts)In a cabinet that is historically unqualified, many of them have in fact proven to be dangerously incompetent. Noem's factless slander of Good immediately after the murder is reason enough to impeach her.

(8,514 posts)with the immigration enforcement mission as a police agency under Congress. The leadership of ICE should be referred for judicial response to charges of inciting/aiding and abetting murder, inhumane treatment, terrorism, and civil rights violations, and fraud. New hires at all levels from Dec. 2024 onward should be required to reapply and requalify. All officers on the street on that day should be held until such time as they are cleared of charges of murder or complicity.
Congress should look into the 100 or so other deaths caused by ICE, along with the standards of performance applied to ICE agents, and administrators, and review ICE policies regarding arrest and handling of those people seized, including records of warrants written and served.
The planning, training, and other directives provided by ICE officials regarding the mission, proper behavior, and interpretation of immigration law should be examined in detail and made public for all to see.
Likewise the leadership at DOJ and DHS should be held accountable.
"Just Following Orders" is NOT an excuse in any courtroom.
Furthermore, Stephen Miller's personal involvement in the policies and directives which lead to this event and others should be exposed in detail. He should be arrested, confined and tried for his crimes.
So too should any other administration members, advisers, and groupies who enabled this horrible event and hundreds of others.
