JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - JTRAN union workers are set to go on strike beginning Monday, July 13 at 4 a.m. after failing to reach a deal with JTRAN contractor MV Transportation, according to officials.
MV and JTRAN have left us with no other choice but to walk off the job. We want the citizens of Jackson to know we did not want to strike. We hope they stand with us. Our frontline bus operators who keep our city moving have been ignored for far too long by MV, ATU Local 1208 Union President Charles Tornes Jr. said in a statement. We have been willing to work with MV to avert this strike, but they continue to bargain in bad faith and refuse to address our concerns. It has become clear MV has no regard for their workers and riders.
The union and MV Transportation have been in negotiations since the workers contract expired on Dec. 31, 2025.
MV and JTRAN will only realize the true value of its workforce when they dont show up to work tomorrow, ATU International President John Costa added. We will not stand for the lack of respect and unlawful treatment of our members. This is an insult to our Union and our riders. We had hoped it wouldnt come down to this for our riders, but these workers have been down this road less than two years ago. Once again, they will stand united and strong on the picket lines.
