EAST ST. LOUIS
Five people are dead, two are in the hospital, and two 16-year-old suspects are in custody following a series of targeted shootings in East St. Louis over the weekend, Illinois State Police said. ... The alleged shooters targeted seven members of the same family, though state police did not specify their relationship during a press conference at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center Sunday afternoon.
There were three separate crime scenes, but because the incidents are related, they are being investigated as a targeted mass shooting, Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said.
Three people were fatally shot at the Samuel Gompers Homes public housing complex, one at a residence in the 800 block of 39th Street, and one at Jones Park. Two additional people were shot at Jones Park and are currently hospitalized with serious injuries, Kelly said.

The two juvenile suspects were arrested Sunday at Frank Holten State Park in East St. Louis. Illinois State Police are working with the St. Clair County States Attorneys office and charges are expected, Kelly said.
