The food was delicious and generous. I would have picked it again but it’ll take a while for the people, the foliage and the infrastructure to be able to accommodate visitors but malaise would know better. If you can, keep that date..the sunsets are breathtaking..we went just after Easter..perfect weather

But I did enjoy it immensely. When I went I was working and under tremendous stress, so it was just what I needed. Quiet and peaceful to the Nth degree.

(deep in the Swiss Alps with gorgeous views of the Matterhorn!). Tell, me that is not "snuggle"-conducive!
(Just don't injure yourselves on the slopes on day 1! )

But, yeah, Paris would be a good option too.

My library has videos of train trips around the world. There are so many! The Blue Train in South Africa...oh my. Australia & Mexico have nice ones, too.

We were hiking early one morning in the foothills of Boulder & I kept hearing what sounded like a vehicle behind me & kept looking back, but of course there wasn't a car or truck on the trail, but the noise got louder & I finally looked up & saw the silver Zephyr going up the mountain above me. It looked like a giant caterpillar climbing the side of the mountain.

All aboard!

I like the idea of Austria or Switzerland, and Germany is a wonderful choice as well.

In North America, I'd choose Quebec or British Columbia.

And my wife is more attracted to Italy than France, so it would work for her great.
Plus, I can speak enough Italian that we wouldn't have to be stuck eating where the tourists go. We could find little, out of the way places to test the cuisine.

I'm not sure my wife could tolerate a 10+ hour flight, and after all my work travel I've sworn off airplane travel.
Nice idea, but highly improbable.

When I retired, I donated my frequent flyer miles to Make A Wish.
I don't remember my American or Delta numbers, but my United miles were a pinch over 2.5 million.
A year or so ago, my wife says "Maybe we should go to Italy before we get too old."
Out of curiosity, I checked the United website. 125k miles & a $120 service charge is a 1st class ticket to Rome.
10% of my miles & $240 would have gotten us to & from Rome 1st class.
I told her "Something you might have mentioned before I donated all my miles!"
As I haven't flown coach since the early 90s, I'm not starting now, and I'm way too cheap to spend money on 1st class tickets.
So, it's STRICTLY a dream.

...which I found out when I donated them, is that once Make A Wish has them, the airlines no longer care which airline they came from.
So, a family in your neck of the woods could use my United Miles on USAir or a family in Minneapolis could use them on Northwest. They don't have to be used on United.
I thought that was pretty cool.
