I'm not making a political statement here, rather, I'm making a statement about life.
What I mean is...the ONLY reason that I would want to be a billionaire is to give it all away to those who need it.
I've always said...I'd like to win $500,000 in the lottery. That's all I need.
I don't get the relentless pursuit of more money by billionaires.
Is it for love? Nobody is going to love you because you have money...they might love your money though.
Is it for perceived respect? Well, I don't respect people because they have that kind of money. Well, unless they donate most of it or do some good with it. THAT I respect.
We're all going to die. Maybe sooner, maybe later. We all end up that way. I can't imagine being on your death bed and being proud of your money hoard. Unless you really busted your ass to get that money...I can see talking pride in that effort. But being proud of HAVING that much money? Nope.
Also, what about all of the stress involved in having to manage those funds? Worrying about someone kidnapping you? How do you even spend that kind of money?
Sorry, just rambling here....

I think they like to look at their accounts and think about how they have more money than anybody else, or some certain people they think of as competitors. The money symbolizes their greatness or power or whatever. Trump used to have hissy fits whenever he didn't make the Forbes 400 list of the richest people.

Our goal is how we can help others.
With Democrats, it's about "we" - with Republicans it's about "me".

Hoarding is what happens when a normal human instinct to save up for future scarcity gets completely out of whack, going to extremes and/or focusing on inappropriate things.

But I'm with you Lucky. I consider myself lucky every day that I never had that craving of more - more money, more power, more stuff. All I ever wanted was enough to live comfortably and be happy with all the blessings that I did have.

(1,293 posts)It's because no matter how much money they have they feel insecure with what they have. They have a fear it's not enough to last them throughout their life. Yes, some people believe the more money they have the more valuable they are to society or it makes them think they're better than those who don't have as much. Again, it's a matter of security.
At my stage of life I am comfortable. I'm not a multimillionaire but I have enough to be, as I said comfortable. I'm invested in mutual funds to help me grow my money. I have a certain amount in my bank account I don't want to go below but it's enough for me to meet just about any unexpected expense that comes up. Once I get close to that level I begin to get insecure.
I think, to an extent, at some point we all feel insecure about how much money we have.
