That was the advice we got when we moved to Colorado Springs, and most years it proves to be true, if not too early. This morning, we woke up to two inches of snow, and it's still coming down!

I always tell newcomers to wait until after Memorial Day. They scoff, but I have been proven right far too many times that they don't do it more than once.

(6,507 posts)My sister, who is an avid gardener. decided to plant her entire vegetable garden. She starts everything from seed, indoors. It was a big garden. One night, the weather went from warm to 36 degrees. Everything died. It looked like a massacre. Since then, she waits until after Memorial Day.

(12,014 posts)but it's perfectly fine for the hanging baskets not to be purchased until about Memorial Day or so.
