The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsFor my 12,000 posting milestone (with a song)
I don't have anything profound to say.
I discovered DU back in 2010.
For two years I lurked. I read. I laughed. I shook my head in agreement. Sometimes I sighed in disbelief. I was here all the same.
I couldn't contemplate a DU handle for myself.
Finally on Nov. 6, 2012 the same night that Barack Obama won his presidential reelection. I registered to DU. I wasn't the only one, there's quite a few of us that registered to DU on Nov. 6, 2012.
I really didn't have anything to say until 2017. And here I am still rambling.
I don't have anything profound to say except that I've Got A Name.
Like the pine trees linin' the windin' road
I've got a name, I've got a name
Like the singin' bird and the croakin' toad
I've got a name, I've got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm livin' the dream that he kept hid
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Like the north wind whistlin' down the sky
I've got a song, I've got a song
Like the whirlpool whirl and the baby's cry
I've got a song, I've got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
And I'm gonna go there free
Like the fool I am and I'll always be
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
They can change their minds but they can't change me
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
Oh, I know I could share it if you'd want me too
If you're going my way, I'll go with you
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

(18,052 posts)And your profundity is prodigious.

John Mellancamp, meanwhile, put the ditty in Jack & Diane.

(18,052 posts)I'd settle for absolving some of the sins of Sinatra.
True Dough
(27,180 posts)absolving sins of the father?
Are you saying that Frank Sinatra IS your father, Harker? That would explain the adulation!
Harker
(18,052 posts)The only time Sinatra was in the same place as my mother was 1944 in Chicago, when she was sixteen, and there were a whole lot of other people there.
I'm (only) sixty-seven. "Only" sounds funny here.
I keep thinking I'll switch to Tony Bennett.

Glad to have you and your second-hand finds adding color to the Lounge!

(12,014 posts)Speaking of nature and adding colors, I put out the hummingbird and the oriole feeder out yesterday.
I've had tons of oriole costumers but it's probably too cold for the hummingbirds just yet.
Thank you!

(22,962 posts)You are a good human, and I always read your posts.
I'm looking forward to the next 12,000!
Niagara
(12,014 posts)Are you sure that I'm human?
I'm only teasing!
I think I'm going to have hit the jackpot winnings to get another 12,000 milestone!
Look at you, almost at 23k!

I didn't appreciate Croce enough back in the day.
Didn't dislike him, just wasn't my thing.
Later I realized that Jim was a terrific songwriter & his partner Maury was a superb guitar player.
I should have appreciated them more before they died in that crash.
Niagara
(12,014 posts)Joe Croce was a bit before my time and so I didn't discover his songs until much later in life.
