It's funny, I didn't "get" his vibe until I moved from the Bay Area to L.A. in late 2001, but instantly understood as soon as I arrived here.
Last year, my daughter and I had the honor of going to an estate sale at his beautiful home in Malibu which recently sold. Gotta say, the ENERGY in that home was singularly amazing. It was as if love wafted through the very air and the light inside was like its own artwork. The family had filled the space with such a unique, diverse and personalized collection of objects they loved.
The best part was getting to visit the detached building that had been Tom's music studio. Not much remained in the way of furniture, etc., but the walls were still covered with acoustic tiles. My late hubs was a recording musician and I wished so much he'd lived to join us for that visit.
We are now the proud owners of TP's bagel slicer, his copy of "Pilgrim's Progress" and "Girl, Interrupted," a cookbook on cupcakes, a lovely wrought-iron candle holder and a wooden shelf my daughter intends to use to hold her vinyl albums.
