(13,423 posts)They both declare it's time to get up and feed the dog and let the cat out. So I'm up. And planning on a couple of cat naps, morning and afternoon.
One of these days I'll revert to normal.
Thanks for asking.

(27,849 posts)In my parents last apartment (Manhattan) the front of the building faced west on an avenue. But the back half of the building where we were was built up on a concrete & bouder foundational structure; and had a massive cantilivered "balcony" bc it was on a steep hill. So we were 8 stories above the street below, and 3 stories above the rooftops of the next 3 avenues, and buildings going eastward.
Complex, am I right? 😄
But it gave us a full 180°sky view ! As as nature lover, artist, and photographer it was glorious!
Since I had several major interests I didn't take tons of prints, or slides; but I had some - including one rainbow!
Another time w/o film I drew this massive thunderhead with a perfectly rounded "anvil" which never flattened out into the classic shape. I say massive bc the bottom half was I guess below the buildings; maybe below the curve of the earth probably over the east Bronx, or western Queens.
Anyway, the fireacape was in my bedroom, and I sat there watching it go from day lit, to sunset, twilight and night. And at night it was lit within by lighting bolts! And yet the sky above me was clear with a few stars. Amazing!

(13,423 posts)McGovern got my first vote too. At DU, I chose George McGovern for my username because I voted wholeheartedly for him. Broke my heart when he lost. I consider Mr. McGovern the greatest president who never was.

(27,849 posts)I believe he was on the Senate's committee for hunger. And against the Viet Nam War Sen RFK was impressed with him.
Humphrey was the first candidate I volunteered for (would have for Bobby if he'd gotten to the NYS/C Primary).
I volunteered for McG, too.
He had one of the last big presidential candidate labor rallies in NYC. And Mayor Lindsey Liberal Republican was there. I might still have 2 b&w photos I printed up. I think I climbed up on a lamppost base to get them!
Oh, yeah, I walked into the hotel where the watch party was....barly anyone there..and you could see on the projected map already w/o polls being all closed that it was a rout.
A story.
He never made a thing of being a WW2 bomber pilot over Germany (while being yelled at for being a "peacenick" ). At one point they accidentally bombed a German farmer's fields.
Decades later that farmer was interviewed. The farmer said that if in any way that accidental bombing somehow helped the effort against Hitler he was ok with it.
