Arkansas Supreme Court dismisses Sanders' appeal in Senate District 26 election case

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — On Thursday, the Arkansas Supreme Court dismissed Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders' appeal of a lower court's ruling on an election timeline challenge.

After the passing of State Senator Gary Stubblefield in September 2025, Sanders was required to issue a timeline for a special election to fill the vacant Senate District 26 seat.

The district encompasses parts of Logan, Sebastian, Johnson, and Franklin counties.

The initial special election date was November 2026. However, less than 24 hours later, it was moved up to June 2026 following backlash.
