SF: Foes of changes to Overpaid Executive Tax add $2 million to fight it

More than $2 million has poured this month into a business-backed campaign against a June ballot measure that would raise San Francisco's Overpaid Executive Tax, something critics say will hurt the local economy but which proponents say is needed to protect vital government services from cutbacks.

The deluge of cash brought the total to more than $3.2 million that had been contributed to the Protect San Francisco’s Small Businesses and Economic Recovery committee, according to city records.

The committee is both opposing Proposition D and supporting Prop. C, an alternate measure that would cut taxes for smaller businesses. It had spent $674,000 by April 16.

The union-backed campaign supporting Prop. D raised $49,208 in April, bringing the campaign's total to just over $1 million, of which it had spent $299,000. Funding to date had come mostly from Service Employees International Union Locals 1021 and 2015, with smaller amounts from some other unions.
