Crews finished installing pride-colored wraps on flagpoles at Boise City Hall earlier this morning

The sponsor of House Bill 561, the legislation that would fine government agencies for flying non-approved flags on government properties, has released a statement on the City of Boise's decision to add rainbow colored flag poles and new signage.

Earlier this week, crews installed pride-colored wraps on flagpoles at Boise City Hall, a display city leaders say is designed to comply with the Idaho law signed by Gov. Brad Little last week.

The wraps were placed directly on the flagpoles, along with signage at City Hall. Rep. Ted Hill (R), the sponsor of the bill, has released a statement saying in part, "The objective of the bill was to bring the American flag back into prominence and not have other political, religious, or ideological flags have the same status in the public space as the American flag. This is divisive and distracting," Hill said in a statement to CBS2.

Hill added he is okay with the rainbow-colored poles and new LGBTQ+ signage at city hall; however, he questions the mayor's activism. ... "Regarding the display of the ribbons and signs? I’m fine with that. It is not the intent to stop the display of this type for holidays or other special occasions. At this point, it does indicate that the mayor is a pride activist over all other groups," Hill said. "Right now, the City Hall does not look like it’s for all the people, but more looks like the Pride Hall."
