Howell resident Jeff Amayo, who is Black, confronted white supremacists waving Nazi flags during a Feb. 6 anti-racist event outside a local theater. Yet he was accused by Howell city officials of having “antagonized, challenged and taunted” the protestors, with his actions equated to those of the white supremacists themselves. Amayo later filed a complaint with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, naming both the city and its police department.
