Royal Oak man accused of taking sign from GOP office, throwing it into street

A Royal Oak man is facing a misdemeanor charge after he allegedly visited the Oakland County GOP headquarters earlier this month, where he grabbed a sign and threw it into the street, the leader of the county's Republican Party announced Monday.

Bloomfield Township police said 23-year-old Kendrew William Groff was arrested Feb. 4 in connection with the incident. He was issued a citation for malicious mischief, then released. He is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 25 in 48th District Court in Bloomfield Hills. Online court records do not list an attorney.

In a social media post, Vance Patrick, chair of the Oakland County Republican Party, said Groff arrived at the party headquarters at 42611 Woodward Ave., where he "grabbed a sign advertising merchandise supporting President Trump and the late Charlie Kirk." He then "violently" threw the sign into Woodward Avenue, Patrick said, "causing danger to the vehicles in the roadway and terrorizing the volunteers in our headquarters."

Workers at the GOP office called police, who questioned Groff and cited him for malicious mischief involving damage to property worth $200 or less, then released him.
