NY-COMP: Challenger to N.Y. state comptroller says he has signatures to be on Democratic primary ballot
Drew Warshaw, a former assistant secretary to Gov. Eliot Spitzer, says his campaign for New York state comptroller has collected and filed more than enough petition signatures to secure his name on the Democratic primary ballot, his campaign announced Friday.
Warshaw is challenging longtime incumbent Tom DiNapoli for the position of the states top fiscal watchdog. His campaign said he has filed 34,683 signatures.
"Nearly 35,000 New Yorkers, from Buffalo to Brooklyn to Babylon and everywhere in between, have sent a clear message to Albany: after two decades of the same person in the same seat, it is time for a change," Warshaw said in a statement. "This is not just a ballot milestone, it is New Yorkers saying they want a Comptroller who will use the enormous power and money of this office to address our affordability crisis, stand up to Trump and ICE, invest in housing, and hold Wall Street accountable."
Besides his work under the former governor, Warshaw led the effort to rebuild the World Trade Center as chief of staff of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Hes worked in renewable energy, and for the last five years, hes led a nonprofit organization that builds affordable housing.
