Delayed by pandemic, Mary Bridge Children's Hospital finally nears open
MultiCare Health System’s Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital is set to open May 16 after six years of planning and construction.
The first version of the once-in-a-generation development was unveiled in 2020 during the early stages of the pandemic. But — like many other organizations that planned projects during that period — the health system went on to grapple with unanticipated supply-chain disruptions and escalating construction costs.
When they went back to the drawing board, the developers came up with a $480 million project, which was a significant escalation from its initial anticipated construction cost of $344 million.
The changes also reduced the footprint and extended the timeline.
