OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney said Thursday that he expects U.S. President Donald Trump to “respect Canadian sovereignty” after revelations that Alberta separatists met with American government officials in what that country’s State Department described Thursday as “routine” engagement.”

.........

Jeffrey Rath, a prominent figure pushing for a separation referendum in Alberta, told the Star that he was part of meetings with “senior” American officials whom he refused to identify but claimed were “very enthusiastic” about the push to break away from Canada.

Rath also said his group is interested in a “feasibility study” on a US$500-billion “credit facility” for the Alberta government.

News of the meetings — previously reported in Canadian media — spread to international media on Thursday morning, with the Financial Times reporting the separatists sought $500 billion in loans to help the province if it breaks away from Canada.

they only have around 30 percent support in the province. Americans should be completely outraged there is even discussion of using American tax dollars at all.

Yes. They don't have the numbers enough to even steal a referendum to separate.

has been going on for decades and, no doubt, will continue after this latest attempt fails.

any part of being part of the USA. We don't even think about it. It is bred in our bones to let government step in where the private markets so obviously fail as they do in private healthcare (way more expensive, less coverage, shorter lifespans, bankruptcies). We all know it and watch the MAGA undo Obamacare while pretending they will help people. No thank you. Albertans are no different.
