Is anyone familiar with Gimp software?
I'm wondering if it has the ability to create a line drawing from a photo.
Any tips would be appreciated.

(23,948 posts)Inkscape (FOSS) may do the job. In any event, it must be worlds better than Gimp for drawing.

Autotrace and its GUI front end frontline are also open source. I suspect that they are behind any Gimp plugin.

Probably old and troublesome. Try Inkscape first.

(40,422 posts)... but my process varies a lot depending on the photograph and what kind of "drawing" I want to create. It's not at all straightforward. The last step is turning it into vector graphic.
Sigh.
If my wife or our artist kid want to create a drawing from a photograph they simply pick up a pencil or pen and draw.
