LEXINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) A new manufacturing plant in Lexington is expected to create 500 jobs and generate more than $1.2 billion. ... Siemens Manufacturing has officially opened its plant that will build Amtrak rail cars.
During the announcement on Friday, the plant provided a first close-up view of the whole process, from the warehouse full of different parts to how the steel is welded together into a train car, to how they are tested before the cars are finally put out on the tracks.
Right now, Siemens employs more than 300 people, and hiring is ongoing. These are skilled jobs in engineering and welding that Siemens leadership says North Carolinas community colleges are ready to produce.

The facility is beginning a second shift of workers Monday and is expected to have built 30 rail cars by this fall.
