Related: About this forumPutin Has Disappeared - Jason Jay Smart
Vladimir Putin has stopped appearing at public events inside the Kremlin, and the gap is now impossible to ignore. His absence has stretched to 9 days, making it one of the longest breaks in his in-person Kremlin schedule this year. The only longer pause in 2026 came in February, from February 6 to February 18. Even the quiet period after the New Year holidays did not last this long, which makes the current break stand out against his own recent pattern.
The timing is what gives this story its weight. It followed reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was tracked ahead of the US and Israeli operation through hacked surveillance cameras and long-term movement analysis. According to reporting tied to the Financial Times account, Israeli intelligence mapped routines, routes, guard habits, and daily patterns around Khamenei before the strike. That detail matters far beyond Iran, because it shows how even a heavily protected ruler can be watched, located, and exposed.
That is why Putins disappearance from normal Kremlin visibility matters. A 9-day break on its own would raise questions. Coming after a public lesson in how modern surveillance can strip away a dictators protective shell, it looks more serious. What appears on paper as a scheduling gap may actually reflect a new level of fear inside the Kremlin.
