Texas Tech quarterback enters treatment for gambling addiction
Texas Tech's new quarterback will step away from the team for an undetermined period of time.
Brendan Sorsby, a transfer QB from Cincinnati, will check into a treatment program for a gambling addiction, according to an announcement from the school on Monday. Sorsby will enter treatment amid an NCAA investigation, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel, in which Sorsby reportedly made "thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app."
Sorsby, 22, reportedly made several bets on Indiana football during his time as a true freshman with the Hooisers in 2022. Sorsby bet on Indiana to win in his reported wagers, and he did not enter any of the contests in question. Regardless, he is now under investigation by the NCAA, whose bylaws state those caught sports betting can face permanent loss of collegiate eligibility.
There is no reported timetable for Sorsby's return from treatment. The NCAA has yet to levy a punishment against Sorsby as of Monday.
