Was Life Better 50 Years Ago? - Sen. Bernie Sanders

Despite huge advancements in technology & worker productivity since the 1970s, wages for American workers have remained stagnant and almost all new wealth has gone to the people on top.

Will it be any different with AI and robotics? I don’t think so. Maybe even worse. - 10/14/2025/

the progress made by women, african americans, gays etc in 50 years has been erased or regressed.

Yesterday

1975 -- I graduated from high school and was enrolled in college.

Nixon was gone. Ford shouldn't have pardoned him, but we moved on. Ford was competent enough and was boring to the point where his wife, Betty, got more press than he did.

Little and big things were affordable. A can of Coke was 25 cents. Gas was 40 cents a gallon. Rents in NYC were $400.

People were nicer to each other.

Music was great.

Until Reagan showed up, these were halcyon years, truly golden.
